Bulletin 3
/ 2006
August-December
Iko Poran!!!
Aside from the approximately 32,600 hours of work that our volunteers performed with our
partner organizations in 2006, such as classes in English, music, dance, photography, building,
recreation and many other activities, we have surpassed R$ 100,000
(exactly R$ 105,372) in donations to our partner NGOs in only our third year of operation;
We have established a partnership with SAT Tours in which the tourists
from the German group MEIERS GROSSE KULTUREN 2007 will donate
US$ 15.00 each to be distributed amongst our partner organizations.
This initiative should be an incentive to all other travel agencies and tourist establishments in Brazil.
With more investments in social projects we will have less violence, less inequality and more tourism.
We will be pleased to visit you and present what we have already achieved in so little time as well as our goals for the future;
- Through a partnership with i-to-i Foundation from the United Kingdom, we have acquired sufficient resources to
finish construction of the community center that we
started for the Grupo Cultural Arte Consciente,
in the Saramandaia community of Salvador.
The organization will have a center with two classrooms on the
first floor for IT classes and Box training, respectively,
and a large room on the second floor for circus,
dance and percussion classes;
- In partnership with i-to-i Foundation we will implement an Internet room in January of 2007,
containing 5 new broadband-connected computers in one of the classrooms that we are building
with donations from volunteers in the Associação Cultural Final Feliz, in the Anchieta neighborhood
of Rio de Janeiro;
-- Invited by Eco Brasil ("Sustainable Tourism Certification Program” and "Hospitality Institute"),
we joined the World Travel Market, in London, United Kingdom, represented by past Iko Poran
volunteers Matthew Sykes and Sarah Cross;
- Iko Poran is cited by the travel author Volker Poelzl in his article about international
volunteerism on the website Transitions Abroad:
http://www.transitionsabroad.com
- - We have developed new programs with partner organizations Programa Social Crescer e Viver
and Associação Cultural Final Feliz to receive Cyber Volunteers in 2007 through a partnership with
the Swiss group IC Volunteers;

mentioned in the third edition of the guide “Brazil for Travellers”, edited by
Sustainable Tourism Certification Program, of the Hospitality Institute;

- More 2006 volunteers have become Iko Poran Ambassadors abroad,
promoting our programs in their countries and serving as points of reference
for future volunteers. They are: Tim Smith, from Canada, Sarah Cross, David Shlosberg,
Jacob Rawel, Ed Grifitt and Pauline Trusselle, from the United Kingdom; Clifford Sung and Daniel McIntosh,
from united States; and Claire Helene Black, from Australia;
