Role of the International Volunteer.

 

General Conditions of Participation

What is included in our programs:

-
Accommodations;
- Three meals per day;
- Terrestrial or fluvial transport to the projects' locations;
- Development of Work Plan together with the partner organization;
- Necessary supplies for programs' accomplishments;
- Attendance of a bilingual team leader;
- Program Management and administrative fees;
- Personal Accidents Insurance;
- Virtual environment for communication and information about the project's course and the alterations accomplished after the program;

Age
It is necessary to be over 18.

Abilities
In most of the programs it is not necessary to have previous experience or specific abilities. The desirable qualifications are: open mind, motivation, flexibility, cooperation and enthusiasm. The disposition to adapt in different realities and to exchange experiences is indispensable.

Passport
It is necessary to have a valid passport for at least six months to travel to Brazil. Verify the necessary time to obtain or to renew a passport in your country and prepare it in advance.

Visas
Visas are required for tourists of many nationalities, including Australia, Canada and United States; the visas are usually for 90 days, with a possible extension for another 90 days. Visas are not requested for tourists from Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bermuda, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, Namibia, Holland, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, San Marino, South Africa, Spain, Surinam, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, Vatican and Venezuela. For them, just the following documents are required: a valid passport for at least six months (or identity document for Argentineans, Chileans, Paraguayans and Uruguayans); and a return ticket, or real proof that you can pay for your return.
Iko Poran's staff is available to guide you through the process of obtaining your visa. The costs regarding the obtaining of the visa are of your own responsibility.

Trips
You should make the arrangements and pay the costs of your air ticket to the program’s place. Verify if your visa and passport are valid during the length of your program. You should arrive in the first day of the program and participate to the end so that its objectives are fully reached.

Staff
Our team leaders will always be present to guide you through your integration to the project. They know the local communities and can help you understand better their culture, answer questions, establish goals and offer advice for your safety.

Immunizations (Vaccines)
We will do everything possible for your safety and health but, in some projects, there are some necessary immunizations previous to your arrival for them to have effect. You should make the arrangements and pay the costs of these immunizations; a voucher will be requested when you arrive in Brazil, to allow your participation in the program. We also suggest that you bring all the necessary preventive medicines, if you need them.

Insurance
All the participants of our programs are covered by a Personal Accidents Insurance, valid for one month, of METROPOLITAN LIFE. If you decide that you need an additional insurance, the costs and expenses of the additional insurance will be on your account. We also suggest that you acquire a trip cancellation insurance.

Work Plans
Before your arrival we will develop your Work Plan together with you and the partner institution. In this way, you will easily adapt in the community. During the program you will work integrated with the project's staff.
This whole work previous to your arrival is accomplished through the virtual environment "Learning Village IBM", ceded by IBM and managed by Portal do Voluntário. 

Performance Indicators
Iko Poran develops the system to evaluate the impacts of the programs in together with the partner institutions, adapted to the specificities of the projects and objectives of the programs. It also incorporates the indicators of the Human Development Index - HDI (health, education and income), Iko Poran's Mission and Vision.

Groups
Our programs are formatted for groups that can vary from 6 to 12 participants who can be from the most varied countries, each one with different background and life experience.

Programs dates
The programs occur during the whole year. However, the programs operated during the summer in the North Hemisphere, fill up quickly and in advance. Please see the dates list to choose the most convenient for you.
