A Volunteer Trip to the Magic Land of the Himalaya

Nepal is a Southeast-Asian landlocked country. Situated between the Tibetan region of China, with its high Himalayan peaks; and the jungled maze of the Indian plains; it is home to 8 of the world’s tallest mountains, including the great Mount Everest.

Nepal is awash with snow-topped peaks, historic monasteries and spiritual mantras. It is the birthplace of the founder of Buddhism, Gautama Buddha.

This small nation has long held a particular allure for travellers. It is a country of majestic beauty, boasting a diverse range of astounding natural phenomena. Since it first opened its borders in the 1950s it has received wandering souls from across the world, drawn in by this unique and mystical place, and its many options available to adventurers

With the backdrop of some of the world’s most dramatic and panoramic landscapes you can get your feet wet going rafting, kayaking and canyoning; surround yourself in nature while trekking and climbing; or feel the thrill of mountain biking, paragliding, or even bungie jumping.

And for the more relaxed types, some prefer to take a stroll through the medieval, temple-lined cities, appreciate the beauty of the Himalayas from a spectacular viewpoint or take a spiritual tour of one of the ancient temples spread across the Kathmandu Valley.

Volunteer in Nepal

From combing through Nepal’s national parks in search of rhinos and tigers, to crossing the country rafting, hiking or astride a motorbike; the only dilemma visitors have to face is how to pack everything in to one trip. Many people come back year on year, and always find new treks through the Himalayan Mountains and new things to explore in the atmospheric temple towns of the Middle Hills.

Famed for its adventurous terrain and lovely ambiance, Nepal is the dream destination for volunteers who wish to make a permanent, positive change in the lives of the disadvantaged.

Orphanage / Childcare Volunteer Program

A child in our Volunteer in Nepal orphanage programVolunteer in Nepal with IKPVA in our Orphanage projects.

Nepal has long suffered from insurgency and conflict. Many children have been left homeless and orphaned. Working in this project you will have the opportunity to make a humble difference in the lives of these children. You will be helping them day-to-day by creating learning, recreational and extracurricular activities such as drawing, painting, singing, and dancing, and also by educating them on important issues like sanitation.

The most important role you will have as a volunteer here is to make the children feel that they are with someone who truly cares about them. The idea is not to make a dramatic change or life-changing contribution to these kids, but is more that you share your love and affection with them and make them feel valued and special.

Simply by playing and having fun with them, being honest and present, you will have a really positive impact on their daily life. The key objective of this project is offering mental, intellectual, physical and social improvement to these deprived children.

Requirements/ Qualifications:

There are no specific skills or qualifications required to volunteer in Nepal in our orphanage project, but those that are interested in social & child development are well received. You must love spending time caring for and playing with children.

Volunteer Teaching in Local Schools in Nepal

3 children smiling in a child development volunteer program in NepalVolunteer in Nepal with IKPVA teaching in local schools!

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to gain teaching experience while improving learning environments in rural areas of Nepal.

Educational facilities in Nepal, in the most part local community schools, lack a qualitative education system. Therefore taking classes with volunteers from developed countries is a really good option for the students of these schools.

Students are enthusiastic, bright and eager to learn. We believe that receiving classes from teachers from across the word not only improves the learning process, but also opens up multiple dimensions to educational exercises, and helps the local teachers too.

In Nepal, English is learnt as a second language and is essential for academic and professional success, but often students here find it a difficult subject to advance in. Hence this project is primarily orientated towards teaching English; but depending on your interest and skills you can also contribute by teaching Mathematics, Science, Computer Basics or Arts.

Requirements/ Qualifications:

You are not required to have prior experience or professional training to volunteer with us as a teacher in Nepal, but you should respect the value of this work and should be committed to passing on your knowledge and helping these children to get the most out of your visit.
