Volunteer work with children in Tanzania

At the Arusha orphanage, children need your affection! You can work with the children of the orphanage by teaching them art and crafts because art is a powerful tool to help you find happiness and creativity. It will also provide love and comfort to these children. On the other hand, it has a wide variety of needs of this institution: food, clothing, teaching materials, domestic services. After all, volunteers will learn, teach, support teachers, play with children and help a little in the daily routine.

If you like to support teachers, you can work as an assistant teacher in a primary school in a poor neighborhood of Arusha. In addition to teaching English, math, music, and dance, you will develop a very good relationship with all school staff and children. Children need a lot of love, help, and support and give back their love! At school, you can also train a young football team in the sports development project.

Volunteering in Tanzania: a Country Blessed with Natural Beauty

Tanzania
Tanzania

Not only is Tanzania proud to bear witness to Africa’s highest point, Mount Kilimanjaro, but it is also a wealthy country full of resources such as lakes, wildlife, and mineral.

The country’s mainland is indeed divided into several clearly defined regions: the low-lying coastal plains, the Masai Steppe, the dry highland plateau and the costs. There you find the East African mangrove as well as Tanzania’s largest city and former capital, Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania is, therefore, the perfect place in Africa to have full tourism opportunities, and amazing volunteering.

A culturally rich country

Culturally speaking, Tanzania is one of the most diverse countries in Africa and this is reflected in the fact that there are more than 158 local languages spoken in the country.

Under the leadership of Julius Nyerere, the learning of Swahili was prioritized over local languages. Swahili is therefore widely spoken, but English is used as the language of higher education, administration, and business.

There are more than 120 different ethnic groups among Tanzania’s population, and unlike in other African countries, most people identify themselves as Tanzanian first and foremost.

Location, Accommodation & OrientationVolunteer Hostel Tanzania

Volunteer programs in Tanzania are based in Arusha, which is also known as the safari capital.

Arusha has a population of around 420,000 inhabitants and is situated in the north of the country, at the foot of the Mont Meru Mountain.

It is located 1,380 meters above sea level and even though it sits very near to the equator, it has an all year round pleasant climate.

The most attractive feature of the city is its location. It is the hub of Safari that runs through the north of Tanzania.

You can find many National Parks nearby: the Serengeti, Manyara Lake, Tarangire, Arusha and Kilimanjaro, the conservation area of Ngorongoro, the Olduvai Gorge.

Arusha is usually the main choice of visitors who visit Tanzania.

Accommodation & Meals

Volunteers in Tanzania stay in a nice hostel situated in one of the best neighborhoods of Arusha, only 15 minutes away from the city center.

It is a fully-equipped hostel where you will not only be able to get to know your fellow volunteers but also a local family who owns the house and will be living next door to you.

You will stay in rooms usually shared by up to four volunteers. The rooms have mosquito netting for all the beds, wardrobes and various shared bathrooms.

For your convenience, the hostel features lounge areas with TV, DVD, two dining areas, music players and tranquil gardens with sitting areas and breathtaking views.

The staff at the hostel will serve a full breakfast and dinner. Moreover, a private fridge is available exclusively for our volunteers.

The urban public transport communication is excellent. To go to the city center you may take the Dala Dala (city bus) just outside the volunteer’s house.

You’ll also find a variety of local restaurants where you will be able to try all types of traditional dishes: chips mayai, chargrilled chicken, ugali, rice, etc. Local shops are close within reach for any emergency purchases.

Nadir from Brazil went for a trip as a childcare volunteer in Tanzania, at Arusha’s orphanage. The children are singing to say goodbye to Nadir, and she says, it was a magic experience in her life. She is grateful for having the opportunity to teach and care for the children and was also very pleased with the way IKPVA organized and conducted her program.
