In addition to teaching English, math, music, and dance, you will develop a very good relationship with all school staff and children. African Dance in Tanzania
In the Women Empowerment Project, you will help young people have experienced early pregnancy, forced marriage while still children, trafficking in human beings, poverty, abuse, and lack of education. Help empower women in a temporary residence center. Within the center, young single mothers and adolescents under the age of 18 receive education and vocational training together with their children.
As a medical volunteer, your mission will be to meet the basic health and education needs of your local communities. During the medical internship at the Daughters of Charity dispensary, you’ll take care of the patients.

Volunteer programs in Tanzania are based in Arusha, which is also known as the safari capital.
Arusha has a population of around 420,000 inhabitants and is situated in the north of the country, at the foot of the Mont Meru Mountain.
It is located 1,380 meters above sea level and even though it sits very near to the equator, it has an all year round pleasant climate.
The most attractive feature of the city is its location. It is the hub of Safari that runs through the north of Tanzania.
You can find many National Parks nearby: the Serengeti, Manyara Lake, Tarangire, Arusha and Kilimanjaro, the conservation area of Ngorongoro, the Olduvai Gorge.
Arusha is usually the main choice of visitors who visit Tanzania.
Accommodation & Meals
Volunteers in Tanzania stay in a nice hostel situated in one of the best neighborhoods of Arusha, only 15 minutes away from the city center.
It is a fully-equipped hostel where you will not only be able to get to know your fellow volunteers but also a local family who owns the house and will be living next door to you.
You will stay in rooms usually shared by up to four volunteers. The rooms have mosquito netting for all the beds, wardrobes and various shared bathrooms.
For your convenience, the hostel features lounge areas with TV, DVD, two dining areas, music players and tranquil gardens with sitting areas and breathtaking views.
The staff at the hostel will serve a full breakfast and dinner. Moreover, a private fridge is available exclusively for our volunteers.

The hostel is located in one of the best neighborhoods of Arusha.
The natural landscape that surrounds the volunteer’s house is stunning! If you are a nature lover then you will be able to enjoy long walks with beautiful and scenic views like this:
The urban public transport communication is excellent. To go to the city center you may take the Dala Dala (city bus) just outside the volunteer’s house.
You’ll also find a variety of local restaurants where you will be able to try all types of traditional dishes: chips mayai, chargrilled chicken, ugali, rice, etc. Local shops are close within reach for any emergency purchases.
Start & Duration
Volunteer programs in Tanzania start on every Saturday of the month. You may arrive on a different day, if necessary, but you might have to wait to attend orientation with the other volunteers that arrive on Saturdays.
You can choose to volunteer from 1 to 12 weeks.
Orientation
One day orientation plus a city tour. Orientation takes place on Sunday after the arrival date.
Requirements to volunteer in Tanzania
You must be at least 18 years old at the start of your placement.
Under 18’s can join the program only if accompanied by a guardian or with parental consent.
Volunteers must have adequate volunteer travel insurance and are required to provide a criminal background check to local staff either upon arrival or during orientation.
Language Requirements
Knowledge of intermediate English is a pre-requisite for your work as a volunteer in Tanzania.
Although the official language of Tanzania is Swahili, people widely speak English in Arusha because of the influx of tourists on safari groups and trekking.
It is advisable that you learn some phrases in Swahili for your daily communication.
Safety
You will have competent support and advice from the local team and project leaders.
Someone will always be available in the case of an emergency.
Please keep in mind that you are in a different country and should take some precautions to avoid exposing yourself to certain risks.
The local coordinators will give you all the information you need to have a safe and unforgettable experience.
