Brazil is one of the most rapidly developing economies in the world. Dubbed on of the world’s leading developing countries, Brazil is fast becoming a powerhouse of business, industry, and innovation. Unfortunately, many people from Brazil’s favelas (or urban slums) have limited access to the opportunities the country’s emerging economy offers. That’s why Iko Poran has initiated partnerships with NGOs and programs that expand opportunities for people who live in favelas - working to give them increased access to opportunities across Brazil.
Technology is the key to the global economy, and it’s the goal of many of our partner programs to empower people from the favelas to learn how to use technology so they can have access to these emerging opportunities in Brazil. As a volunteer in a technological innovation program, you may help teach people of all ages to use technology, set up new systems at partner program sites, and/or maintain & upgrade existing systems to support new technologies.
Only basic technological proficiency is necessary to work on a technology program - i.e. knowing the basic functions of operating systems like Microsoft Office. Our technology partners are also open to suggestions from potential volunteers that are interested in formatting a unique project that cater to the volunteer’s unique skills and fulfills our partners’ objectives.
