Bryn Hafemeister, from United States, with a child at MorrinhoMorrinho is a truly multifaceted program that offers volunteers the opportunity to teach language courses in English, Spanish, and French; photography; outreach training for the boys when they take their exhibitions abroad; web design; and fundraising. The centerpiece of Morrinho is a scale model of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro made basically with bricks. The “Morrinho model” today occupies an area of 300 square meters in the Pereira da Silva community, boasting a wealth of details of places like: funk clubs, police, drugs sales points, alleys, staircases, small bars etc.

Their brick universe reveals the aesthetics fullness of the favela, which has been portrayed by international artists, photographers and film directors in various works. In 2001, a film crew came to Favela Pereira da Silva to film the scale model, but the documentary became experience of mutual exchange. One day the boys asked for the camera, and starting incorporating the camera into their play. The results were surprising and the idea sparked the creation of TV Morrinho. The group already participated at the 2004 Urban World Forum II in Barcelona, Point Ephémère in Paris, the “Year of Brazil” in France in 2005, and in KunstHaus of Munich in 2006.
