Verdejar Proteção Ambiental e Humanismo has developed a wide range of environmental activities aiming to restore and preserve the Misericórdia mountain range of Rio de Janeiro. The project also offers educational workshops in public schools, seminars, ecological treks, socio-environmental projects, ecological-oriented concerts and meetings with government agencies as well as participating in forums and students' leaders.

The Misericórdia mountain range encompasses an area of about forty square kilometers in Rio de Janeiro, boasting a 260 meters high peak that is visible from anywhere in the city. It extends through 27 neighborhoods and divides the Inhaúma and Irajá neighborhoods, which played an important role in the agricultural production between the 17th and 19th century. These neighborhoods were gradually urbanized, becoming residential areas with time, putting both the area’s fauna and flora at risk.
