I think my presence and interest in the kids showed them that even someone from a different country was supporting their growth.

And they got the chance to be my teacher at times by teaching me Portuguese or explaining to me things about their culture and their lives.

In the beginning I was a little skeptic of how my experience would be because the environment and language and culture was so different from what I was used to. But after awhile, as I got more comfortable with the language, I got to know the kids a lot better and understand the way things work in their culture and at Circus.
