CEMINA
PARTNER INSTITUTION AND PROJECT
CEMINA’s aim is to ensure that issues related to gender and human rights are at the forefront and an integral part of information and communication in Brazil.
CEMINA was created to challenge the traditional values and outdated structures that permeate Brazilian society and provide a platform for women to have a voice, to air their opinions and to speak candidly about issues that are pertinent to them. It began by delivering a daily radio program revolving around women's issues in 1988. It's radio work now encompasses music, radio drama and entertainment alongside health awareness and educational programmes and it has expanded to, not only provide radio facilities in many of the different regions and communities of Brazil, but also to provide radio and media training courses, ICT facilities and a women's forum.
In this way, CEMINA brings women and local communities together using accessible communication channels (radio and the internet), providing them with the means to share opinions and highlight their concerns to wider society.
Of the many projects that CEMINA delivers, their main activities include:
· Radio - delivery of radio within local communities across Brazil
· Radio TeleCenters - Radio and Internet facilities housed in the same building. ICT is used to facilitate radio production and Internet and ICT training packages are available to the entire local community
· Cyberela Network - A network of women radio presenters with web training that ensure that the radio and internet services run smoothly and effectively
