PARTNER INSTITUTION AND PROJECT

Associação Casa das Artes de Educação e Cultura offers children and youth from low income communities in Rio de Janeiro the chance to complement regular scholastic education with artistic and cultural development during their formative years. Casa das Artes offers youth programs in video, photography, dance, and music. The students are able to apply the skills learnt in various projects. For example, photography students published a book describing the life of anonymous poets in the Mangeuira neighbourhood. The institution is sponsored by Xerox and The Government of Brazil.

ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE DONE BY THE VOLUNTEER

Volunteers can teach or assist in teaching any of the following skill sets at beginner and/or advanced levels:

	Dance
	Visual Arts (all forms: painting, drawing, paper work, etc..) Theatre/Corporal expression
	Music
	Photography
	Audio/Video
	English
	Capoeira

In addition, Casa das Artes is open to suggestions from potential volunteers that are interested in formatting a unique project that cater to the volunteer´s unique skills and fulfills Casa das Artes´s objectives. Such projects will need to demonstrate formative progression for the students at Casa das Artes.

	Volunteer integration capacity with communities, staff, children, and youth.
