Nós do Cinema
PARTNER INSTITUTION AND PROJECT
Nos do Cinema was founded by the Katia Lund and Fernando Meirelles, directors of the Oscar nominated Brazilian movie ‘City of God’. The organization’s objective is to promote social inclusion of youth in low-income neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro through cinema and technology. Students currently take classes in various facets of cinema, English, and subjects of personal development such as sexuality and drug education. Partners of Nos do Cinema include Harvard University and Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).
ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE DONE BY THE VOLUNTEER
Volunteers can teach or assist in teaching any of the following skill sets at beginner and/or advanced levels:

Nos do Cinema is open to suggestions from potential volunteers that are interested in formatting a unique project that cater to the volunteer’s unique skills and fulfills Nos do Cinema’s objectives. Such projects will need to demonstrate formative progression for the students at the organization and be related to Cinema or Personal development issues.
Nos do Cinema encourages volunteers to maintain relationships with the organization at the end of the internship program that provides reciprocal benefits to the volunteer and to
Nos do Cinema. A previous volunteer, for instance, developed new partners for Nos do Cinema in her country of origin. Another volunteer, continues to maintain relationship with his students through e-mail.
