Se Essa Rua Fosse Minha (SERFM)
SERFM´s mission is to develop a wide mobilization campaign around the so-called “street children” issue and begin socio-educational action towards the inclusion and guarantee of rights of children. SERFM assists around 600 youth through theatre, dance, and circus groups in different
sites.
Grupo Cultural Afro Reggae (CGAR)
The goal of CGAR is to have a direct intervention close to the Afro-Brazilian population and offer a cultural and artistic education that reinforces positive interests, in an effort to help young favela (urban slums) residents escape from the drug traffic and under-employment. UNESCO has chosen CGAR as the year 2000 “Best Social Project in
Brazil”.
Jongo de Serrinha
Jongo da Serrinha has as its objective to continue the work begun by Maria Joana Rezadeira and Mestre Darcy more than 40 years ago to preserve the Jongo musical heritage while providing social assistance to the low-income community of Serrinha. Jongo is the precursor of Samba and was brought to Brazilian soil by Angolan slaves. The project offers Jongo, Samba drums, Afro dance, Capoeira, and others classes.
OndAzul Foundation
OndAzul was founded by Gilberto Gil - one of the most expressive and well-known Brazilian artists, and also an environmental activist and Minister of Culture. The main objective is the creation of job opportunities, the generation of income, and the recycling of plastic bottles for use in the production of furniture
frames.
Spectaculu
Spectaculu offers children and youth from low-income communities the chance to complement regular scholastic education with artistic, cultural, and professional development during their formative years. The objective is to provide tangible skill sets and self esteem for their future growth.
Projeto Final Feliz
Projeto Final Feliz was created to find alternatives for youth in low-income communities through art and culture. The program currently offers classes in music, capoeira, dance, leadership, and literacy. In addition, the program offers supplementary services such as a health and lunch programs for the
students.
The participants may interact with the community and the children from the visited
organizations.
