Volunteer with Dance in Tanzania

Volunteer with Dance in Tanzania
Massai family celebrating and dancing

Volunteer in Tanzania in our arts project. Through this project you will be in direct contact with children and teenagers passionate about dancing. You will support several dance schools that have been created with the objective of promoting the social, economic and cultural development of the African continent.

If you are passionate about dance, you will have the opportunity of putting your knowledge into practice by creating workshops and choreographies for Tanzanian dancers. Although the Tanzanians have their fascinating African rhtyhms, they will be very interested in learning new dance techniques. What’s more, you will learn African dance and the most important rituals of tribe dances. You can also use dance for teaching with educative purposes in local schools and orphanages. Finally, you will realize that in Tanzania, the dance is the air, the African rhythm.

Location, Accommodation & Orientation

Our programs to volunteer in Tanzania are based in Arusha, which is known as the safari capital. It has population of around 420,000 inhabitants and is situated in north of the country, at the foot of the Mont Meru Mountain. It is 1,380 meters above sea level and even though it sits very near to the equator, it has an all year round pleasant climate.

The most attractive feature of the city is its location. It is the hub of Safari that runs through the north of Tanzania. Nearby, many National Parks are found: Serengeti, Manyara Lake, Tarangire, Arusha and Kilimanjaro, the conservation area of Ngorongoro, the Olduvai Gorge. Arusha is normally the main choice of visitors who come to Tanzania.

You will stay in rooms usually shared by up to four volunteers. The rooms have mosquito netting for all the beds, wardrobes and various shared bathrooms. The hostel has lounge areas with TV, DVD, two dinning areas, music players and tranquil gardens with sitting areas and breath taking views. Full breakfast and dinner are provided and there is a private fridge reserved only for our volunteers.

Neighbourhood

The hostel is located in one of the best neighbourhoods of Arusha. The natural landscape that surrounds the volunteer’s house is stunning! If you are a nature-lover then you will be able to enjoy long walks with beautiful and scenic views like this:

The urban public transport communication is excellent. In order to arrive to the city centre you will be able to take the Dala Dala (city bus) from outside the volunteer’s house. The house is also surrounded by a variety of local restaurants where you will be able to try all types of traditional dishes: chips mayai, chargrilled chicken, ugali, rice etc. Local shops are close within reach for any emergency purchases.

You must be at least 18 years old at the start of your placement. Exceptions can be made for under 18’s accompanied by a guardian or with a parental consent.
