During your volunteer trip to South Africa, you’ll get to know charming Cape Town, a gem rich in culture. You will see the Table Mountain already on the ride to the volunteer house from the airport. In Cape Town, you may choose from two fascinating wildlife volunteer projects, namely the marine biology internship at the aquarium, and a rescue project for abandoned township dogs and cats.

The large volunteer house in Fish Hoek will be your happy home for this trip. It features a garden and a pool. Rooms are shared dormitory-style. There are three bathrooms with hot, running water, showers and regular flush loos.

During your free time, you can relax in the lounge area, balcony, lush garden and barbeque.

You’ll be only a short distance from the shops and beach.

Fascinating Volunteer Projects and Leisure Activities in and around Cape Town

If you enjoy surfing, join the Surfing program in Muizenberg. On one of the most beautiful beaches of the planet, you can learn to surf on gently rolling waves! As a volunteer, you can share this fascinating experience with adolescents from the neighborhood, and teach them English as well.

On the Southern Peninsula of Cape Town, there are more exciting volunteer projects: the new Teaching Internship at a primary school, Occupational Therapy for children with special needs and Sports Development. One of the favorite experiences is caring and Teaching Children at Doreen’s Crèche, in Masiphumelele.

Sara Ferreira: about one of the greatest adventures!

All these projects are close to the volunteer house and to the beaches.

Sara Ferreira from Brazil took a trip to volunteer in South Africa. She likes to remember her adventure, the wonderful experiences with the children of “Doreen’s Crèche” in Cape Town:

About one of the greatest adventures. Ended up getting more then I was giving. All the smiles, all the sincere “Thank you teacher”, all those hugs were worth every second. Because in the end, I finally got the triple of what I gave. – Sara Ferreira

Cape Town offers plenty of fascinating leisure activities, even paragliding. However, if you love marine life and want to dig even deeper, try ou new Marine Biology internship at the Aquarium in Cape Town! You will fall in love with the underwater life full of color, beauty, tranquility, and magic.

You may even face your fears and cage dive with Great White Sharks! This program offers the opportunity to see the world’s most fascinating predators in their natural habitat.

Wildlife Volunteering in the African Bush, with the Big Five, Vervet Monkeys and more

Save the Vervet Monkeys
Save the Vervet Monkeys

On the picturesque coastline of the Garden Route, close to Port Elizabeth, you’ll find an Animal Sanctuary, where you can nurse orphaned and Injured Wildlife.

And since you will be living in a nearby lodge, the African Choir will wake you up every morning.

From there, it is not really far to tropical Durban – where the sun never sets and the surf is always up!

Also close to Port Elizabeth, we offer a fascinating Wildlife Veterinary Internship. You will start to understand in full depth the intricacies of a vet specializing in African wildlife

Near Tzaanen, a six hours drive from Johannesburg, there is an important volunteer project to save orphaned Vervet Monkeys. For this one, you don’t need to be a vet, love for the animals and dedication is all you need!

Discover South Africa in Depth

The country is both rich in culture, fauna & flora, and history.

Moreover, the beautiful country features an incredible range of climates, widely varying landscapes, wildlife, and wilderness.

While you volunteer in South Africa you will also have some free time to discover its beautiful landscapes.

You can choose whether you discover from the white beaches and dazzling oceans of Cape Town or go for a trip to the picturesque coastline of the Garden Route, to tropical Durban – where the sun never sets and the surf is always up!

At the rugged Drakensberg mountain range, you can enjoy stunning views over jagged sweeps of peaks. However, in the North, you will find a different scenery again, where it’s famous ‘veld’ or bush expands to the horizon.

At dusk, you can expect to behold spectacular sunsets like no other, made up of the most vivid reds, orange, pinks, and purples.

Volunteer in South Africa amidst the Natural Beauty and Wildlife in the Bush

Besides the stunning natural beauty and scenery, South Africa features one of the most diverse populations of wildlife in the world.

In the raw African bush only an hour from urban cities such as Pretoria and Johannesburg, you can hope to see Africa’s Big Five: lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and leopards, among many hundreds of other species.
