The people of Thailand are open, friendly and spiritual and are of mainly indigenous backgrounds. Although there are significant groups of ethnic Chinese and assimilated Thai-Chinese people throughout the country, as well as hill tribes such as the Karen and Hmong in the north.

Since the Theravada Buddhism is the dominant religion adopted by 95% of the population, the country is awash with beautiful temples. There are also adherents to Confucianism, Islam, Christianity, and animist faiths.

Iko Poran is an NGO based in a developing country. We are dedicated to helping you help others, at the cheapest possible price. One of our goals is to offer cheap volunteer programs in Thailand so that more people can help to do really important work.

Participants in our cheap volunteer programs in Thailand normally find US$ 100 to be sufficient for weekly expenses in the country, including meals but please bring more if you intend to travel at weekends, explore the country more.

The program fee should be paid to the host country and it is due 30 days before the project start date.

We offer Teaching, Childcare, Medical, and Elephants programs in Surin and we also have an amazing Voluntour program in which in one week you care for elephants in Surin, on the second week you build in Sanghklaburi and spend the last two weeks in Koh Phangan, the ultimate party destination.

Surin, in the Northeast, is often called the heart of Thailand. The historic city is well known both for its beautiful scenery and the friendly local community.

Sanghklaburi, in the Northwest of Thailand – on the border with Burma. Since the city is surrounded by stunning lakes, rolling mountains, and dense rainforest, it provides ample opportunity for you outdoorsy types.

Local guides can also take you on fabulous treks through the jungle visiting beautiful waterfalls and awe-inspiring caves.

Orientation for Volunteers in Thailand
One of our guides will be at the airport to greet you (NOTE: we can only do pickups from BKK airport – the main one) and take you to your guesthouse on the backpacker haven of Khao San Road, the meeting point is EXIT 1. Later that evening you will meet up with the rest of your group to get to know each other more on your first night on Khao San Road.

On the second day after breakfast, there will be an orientation meeting, giving you basic information on your program to volunteer in Thailand and all you need to know about how to be safe and have fun during your stay in Thailand. After orientation, the team will take you on a tour around some of the sights of Bangkok.

You will get to explore some of the city’s best landmarks such as the temple of the reclining Buddha, the Temple of Dawn, the Grand Palace and more. Note: the entry fee for the Grand Palace (500 THB) is not included.

On the third day, the local team will organize the transfer to your program’s location which takes around 6-7 hours.
Reqirements
You must be at least 18 years old at the start of your volunteer placement.

All volunteers must have adequate volunteer travel insurance. They also need to provide a criminal background check to IKPVA prior to traveling.

Most projects do not have pre-requisites or specific requirements; however, we do ask that anyone wishing to participate in the medical program has qualified, is studying towards or is serious about a career in healthcare.
Language Requirements
For all the volunteer projects, you need to be fluent in English.
Safety
You will have competent support and advice from the local team and project leaders.

There will always be a member of the local team working with you at the projects.

The local coordinators will give you all the information to have a safe and unforgettable experience as a volunteer in Thailand.
