Sports Volunteering Abroad: Football Coaching and Sports Development and in 6 Countries!

The Sports volunteer program offers you the possibility to train, compete, or just play around with unprivileged children enjoying one of the World’s favorite entertainments of all times.

Volunteering on Sports Development – Overview

At just about every corner in the World, you will find the locals playing sports, but now you can be a part of the team as a volunteer in one of our sports development programs. Athletics have become vital for World’s lowest-income communities, as they provide children and adolescents with recreational outlets in neighborhoods that offer young people very few options for entertainment.

Local organizations and their respective community councils initiate and operate projects, where you can take part as a sports volunteer.

“The Smiles on People’s Faces when I Bought Football Equipment”

Football Coaching in Brazil: Afonso with his students in Rio de Janeiro
Afonso with his football students in Rio

I was very happy with my time on the Sports Development Programme. My expectations of Rio were surpassed and I had an amazing time seeing the city, meeting people and doing my volunteer work. The coordinator, Felipe, was very helpful and it was a pleasure to stay with him and his family. The local people who helped with the programmes were really kind, patient and fun to work with. […]

My favourite memories are the smiles on people’s faces when I bought football equipment and stationary with money raised by friends and work colleagues. I was able to raise £530 in two weeks and would highly recommend raising some money through a donation website, so you can go the extra mile with supporting the locals. – Afonso, 31 years, from London

Argentina: Football Coaching in Buenos Aires

Football Coaching in Argentina: Adam Leese with children from the project
Adam Leese Football Workshop

I recently returned home from 2 weeks volunteering in Villa Rodrigo Bueno, a small neighbourhood in Buenos Aires. The main aim of the programme was to use organised workshops in football, boxing and English to encourage the local kids to get involved with productive activities and become active members of their community. All in all it was a fantastic experience, and I was really well looked after by the people there. Flor and Bautista, a husband and wife team who ran the community centre, made sure I was safe, comfortable and well fed whenever I visited them and Andrea, who was the link between Iko Poran and the neighbourhood, was in constant contact with me throughout. – Adam Leese, United Kingdom, 23 years

That’s why sports development has become a vital outlet for children because it provides them with friendly competition in a safe and fun environment. And the best part is: these programs are almost always powered by volunteers.

The project offers sports activities (mainly football) to 400 children (boys and girls) from several football schools. The idea is to keep them away from the danger through sports and to develop female football. As a sports volunteer, you’ll work alongside the coaches of the football team to help facilitate daily practices. Additionally, the team will play matches on the weekends, where you will assist the coach. Volunteers do not need to be professionals in sports, but rather have a passion and excitement for this program.

Teaching Sports to Disadvantaged Children in South Africa

Go for an African Adventure and teach children as a South Africa sports volunteer.

In this project, you will be teaching and helping with sports activities at a primary school situated on the South Peninsula of Cape Town. The students at the school come from a disadvantaged community, so your volunteer work will help them greatly.

With your work as a sports volunteer, you will take everyone a great step ahead, since the 33 teachers care for 750 children. Therefore, the attention you can give the children will comfort them. Also, you can give the children an opportunity to develop their skills individually. Moreover, your help will give the children the possibility of improving and gaining new skills that South Africa Sports Volunteer - Volunteers and children in our Sports project in South Africapreviously they would never have had the opportunity to learn.

Since these children are energetic and enthusiastic and so keen to learn from you. they will really appreciate your dedication! Finally, there is no limit to what you can teach them.

Teach Football and Basketball

You can help develop their capabilities with more popular sports like football and basketball. However, if you’re a guru at bowls or have a secret passion for ballet, bring it on!

Just remember that the school won’t have access to expensive equipment, so you will need to be creative and patient, to make sure everybody has fun. Also, any old sports gear that you, your family or friends could provide as a donation would make a huge difference. There are many ways to improve children’s lives.
